Dear Park Lane Patrons and Families,
Thank you for your support as we continue this crazy year.
SCHOOL NEWS:
Fundraiser Update: WOW, this has been a super successful Fundraiser! Thank you so much for pulling through for Park Lane! We’ve surpassed our goal of $12,000 and have now reached over $15,000! As promised, I’ll be jumping from a plane this upcoming Saturday. I’m scheduled to be at Skydive Utah (huge props to them for donating the cost of the jump!) at 10 a.m., so the actual jump should be sometime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. I’d guess I’ll be jumping sometime between 10:30-11:30 a.m. but that will be subject to weather etc. We will try to livestream it on Facebook (Park Lane School) if possible, for anyone who wants to tune in. You’re welcome to come on Saturday to verify the actual occurrence as well, but it might just turn into a long day. I’d recommend waiting for the movie. J
Hybrid Parent-Teacher Conferences – Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held September 22nd and 23rd in-person or virtually per your preference. Please sign up for a time and touch base with your child’s teacher about how you’d like to meet. Teachers will send virtual meeting links for parents who chose to meet virtually.
Flu Shots – Our annual partners from Boo to the Flu will be here from 4-7:30 p.m. on the Wednesday evening of Parent Teacher Conference (September 22nd). Please stop on by if you’d like to get flu shots for your family.
Social Media – I’m still dabbling in the social media world, and if you haven’t been following our Park Lane PTA on Instagram I’d definitely suggest it. There are fun updates, great information, and some funny videos, including a new “Fancy Like Dance Battle,” between Sheriff Woody and Buzz (definitely worth the price of admission). Check it out at… “Park Lane School” on Facebook and “Park_Lane_School” on Instagram. If you haven’t checked out the PTA’s page parklane_pta you should check that out too!
Safety Reminders – The two big safety concerns that I continue to see are students walking through the parking lot from in front of the school, and parents jaywalking with students across 10000 S. These are a big concern for the safety of our students. Please, please, please park and have your student follow the safe walking routes where they won’t have to cross in front of moving vehicles.
Free WiFi/Older Edition Chromebook – As part of ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide for students, Canyons is again partnering with the Comcast Corporation to cover monthly Internet connection costs for families in need. The program, coupled with investments to build Canyons’ stockpile of computing devices, aims to ensure all students — those learning online and inside the classroom — are equipped to succeed. If you are in need of WiFi or a Chromebook for your student to use at home please reach out and let us know how we can help.
School Community Council (SCC) – Our first SCC was held on Thursday, September 9th. If you are interested in what was discussed, or wish to participate in future meetings, please check out the agenda and future meeting dates on our school website (under Community). Additionally, agendas, meeting minutes and other documents can be found on the main hallway bulletin board at the school.
Free Money for the School – If you haven’t linked your Smith’s rewards cards to Park Lane, please consider doing so. Smith’s, Target, AmazonSmile, and other retailers will donate money to the school (or district) based upon sales linked to the school. This important partnership costs nothing but benefits the school. It’s an easy fundraiser for the school – just link the rewards and they send us a check to benefit our school.
Substitutes Needed – Would you be willing to cover your child’s class for a day? If you would be willing to occasionally teach a class for half or a full day (even if you’d only be interested in subbing in your own child’s class), we would love for you to serve as an emergency substitute at Park Lane. With the shortage of substitutes we could really use a few people willing to be called upon in case of an emergency. Please let us know if you are willing. J
