Dear Park Lane Patrons and Families,
We are so happy to have our building filled with students again. We’ve had a great start to a wonderfull year to come, and thank you for your help.

SCHOOL NEWS:

Safety Request – We appreciate your support with helping our students stay safe.  Here are a couple of trouble spots that I would ask for your help on please.

  • We are very concerned about seeing parents and student walk across 10000 S East of the crosswalk intersection. This is a big safety concern as it teaches students very unsafe behaviors. If you drop off or pick up on the south side of the school please use the designated drop off, or park up the street where students don’t need to cross the street, or do so at crosswalks with our crossing guards.
  • Additionally we worry about students walking through the parking lot in front of the school. Students are crossing through cars in the parking lot and busses unsafely. Please help by…
    • If you are parking in the lot, please walk with your students through the lot.
    • If you are dropping students off in front of the school please have the students follow the sidewalk around rather than cutting through.

I know these routes may add a minute or two but that is certainly worth it to keep our students safe.

Additionally, I wanted to remind everyone, especially our new students, about playground use before and after school: Kindergarten parents are encouraged to stay and wait with their children prior to the 8:25 bell. During this time, and with parental supervision, kindergarteners may use the kindergarten playground. Our main playground is closed before and after school for arrival and dismissal. However, it is a pretty awesome playground, and you are welcome to use it in the evenings and weekends with your family.

Attendance – Consistent school attendance is fundamental for student success. At Park Lane we strive to have ALL students attend at least 95% of the school year. That means students should miss less than eight days during the year. Please help as much as you are able by trying to schedule appointments and vacations on non-school days. Of course we anticipate students will miss some days due to illness and other things that come up. The concern really comes when students begin to miss more than 5% of the year and learning gaps begin to develop. Please help us by working to ensure your students are here 95% of the time.

Help us Fight Food Waste – Join us in our mission to lower food waste in Canyons School District. In this video, we delve into the importance of making informed choices during school lunch. Learn about the required food groups, discover how to create a balanced meal, and take a quick quiz to test your knowledge. Let’s work together to ensure nutritious meals for all students while minimizing food waste. Watch this video for more info: https://youtu.be/e45TmQd6gOY

Student/Family Handbook – We have compiled and organized much of the basic Park Lane information for students and families in a handbook.  This handbook is available online on the school’s website, and a hardcopy can be obtained in the office.  Some basic information in the handbook was also covered in my back to school video.

School Community Council (SCC) – One more call for interested SCC members. Our SCC is comprised of parents like you who are excited to be involved.  The SCC meets monthly and helps establish the School’s Land Trust and Improvement Plans each year. If you are interested in joining our SCC please visit: https://forms.gle/2gPQZvnteFxCKo4o6.  Paper forms will also be available in the office if preferred.  Nominations are due September 3rd. Our first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, September 19th @ 6:00pm.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) – Park Lane is fortunate to have an active and supportive PTA.  We are grateful for all the good things the PTA does for our students, and encourage every parent to get involved. Please JOIN the PTA!

School-Wide Behavior Plan – Park Lane Elementary relies on Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS).  We have three main expectations (i.e. the Big 3).  In all areas of the school we strive to be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, and RESPONSIBLE.  We will be teaching these to students at the beginning of the school year.  Skills we be retaught throughout the year as needed.

Now Hiring – We are still in need of additional support, and are looking to hire a part-time paraeducator (27 hours/week). Please reach out if you are interested or see Park Lane openings at jobs.canyonsdistrict.org.
