Dear Park Lane Patrons and Families,
Thanks for helping us celebrate Halloween safely at Park Lane. It was a lot of fun and I saw some very fun, creative costumes. Please check out the information and note important upcoming dates below.
SCHOOL NEWS:
Cold Weather & Inclement Weather Notifications – The cold seemed to come quickly this year. While the weather will fluctuate I wanted to remind everyone to dress accordingly and to bring coats, jackets, etc. in order to enjoy the outdoors. We believe in having students outdoors during recess when we can, and only have inside recess when temperatures are extremely low, we have severe weather, or if the air quality is rated red/unhealthy. Children with other respiratory concerns may stay indoors when the air quality index (AQI) reaches the orange level. Please make sure your child’s teacher is aware of any such concerns.
Also, just a reminder as we head into winter, when we do experience bad weather please watch for alerts from the district. Alerts will be relayed via Parent Square or Skylert, be posted online (canyonsdistrict.org, Facebook, and Twitter), and communicated through local news outlets. If no public announcement is made, schools will be open and operating as usual.
Request for Veteran Pictures – We are excited to honor our veterans this year during Muffins with our Military on Friday, November 10th at 7:45 a.m. We are asking families to send a photo of their veterans as part of our presentation during the event. Please email photos to Rebecca.a.gunderson@gmail.com by November 8th. Thank you and we look forward to celebrating with you.
Safety First – We wanted to remind families that student supervision doesn’t begin until 8:10 a.m. outside. We have been having some students come earlier than that without adult supervision. Unless students are here for breakfast (which begins at 8:00 a.m.), or for choir, or orchestra please come after 8:10 a.m.
Attendance – When it comes to attendance we’d like all of our Park Lane students to get an A! That means we need them here 95% or more. That’s eight days or less during the school year. Hopefully that gives room for a few sick days and family days that come up now and then. I remember when I was younger, schools promoted 100% attendance. In our day and age we realize that isn’t always the best. We want students to stay at home when they are sick, and realize that occasionally family time happens on a school day and that is okay. With that 95% target in mind we are rewarding, and will continue to reward, students who are able to reach that A for attendance!
PTA Plea – We couldn’t do what we do without the PTA. We will need a new president (or co-presidents) next year, and could really use your help in multiple areas of the PTA. If you’d like to partner with us and help make a positive difference for students please consider joining PTA and helping.
Safety Drills – We do safety drills every month to help train students how to stay safe in an emergency. The district recently sent out communication about our upcoming November drill, and you are welcome to see every month’s drill by visiting https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/safe-schools/safe-entry-emergency-drills/ . I use student friendly language when conducting the drills, and encourage parents to follow up on the drills at home if you’d like.
Translation and Interpretation – If you ever need translation and interpretation services when visiting the school to meet with teachers or staff, or even for a school activity, please let us know.
