Dear Park Lane Patrons and Families,
Welcome back! We’re excited to have students back in school again! We are looking forward to a wonderful new year at the Park Lane and truly value your partnership in the education process for our students. Here are some important reminders as we look forward to this new year.
Important Information:
Back To School Videos and Open House – We have received very positive feedback about our hybrid style Back to School Night and will continue it this year. We will be posting short videos with important classroom and school information on our school’s website: https://parklane.canyonsdistrict.org/meetyourteacher/. New videos will be posted by Thursday night (August 11th). Please watch the school’s (mine) and PTA’s videos, as well as your students’ teacher’s video prior to coming in for our open house.
The Open House will be from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12th. At the open house new students will be able to meet their teachers and returning students will be able to familiarize themselves with their new classrooms. Parents will also get the opportunity to talk to their students’ teachers and other school faculty and ask any follow-up questions. We’re going to keep it casual so please feel free to come and go when you please.
First Day of School – August 15th (or 18th for Kindergarten) – We are rolling out the red carpet again! All 1st-5th grade students will line up with their classes (we’ll be outside to help new students if they don’t know where that is) on August 15th, and then enter the school via the front doors as we welcome them back to school. Kindergarteners will also have a red carpet welcome on the 18th, but they will enter through their classroom doors by the kindergarten playground.
Staffing Updates – We have a few new faces to welcome to our Park Lane family including:
Makenzie Zern Third Grade Teacher
Sarah Hamel Fifth Grade Teacher
Ashley Peterson School Counselor (full-time)
Lindsey Hardcastle SLP (part-time in addition to Ms. Roper)
Jessica Smith Art Brain Booster
Lisa Christensen Para-educator (full-time)
Sheri Savage Para-educator
Brooke Christensen Para-educator
We also are continuing to experience a substitute teacher shortage. If you are interested/willing to help us cover classes, in case of a teacher absence, please call Jeannie in our main office at 801-826-9025, and she will help you complete the necessary paperwork. Thank you for helping.
Park Lane is RISING! – As school RISE scores were released this past summer we were ever so pleased to see how well Park Lane students scored. We did phenomenal! Our scores not only climbed through the COVID pandemic but also were some of the very highest in the entire school district. I’m happy to share additional details if you are interested (we’ll be talking about it at our first SCC meeting), but our students really shined, and we are so proud!
Online Registration – All Park Lane students must register online every year. Online Registration began August 1st. If you have not yet completed online registration please do so ASAP. Online registration information and links can be found on the district webpage: https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/general-news/ready-set-school-register-for-the-2022-2023-school-year-starting-aug-1/ . Our office staff is happy to assist you with any questions at 801-826-9025.
Student Drop-off and Pick-up – Please remember to be safe, extra patient, and extremely cautious during drop-off and pick-up during our first few days of school.
- We ask parents/guardians walking students up to the school to consider parking off school grounds (on the street, or in a nearby parking lot) and follow the safe walking route to the school. Please set the best example for your students by only crossing streets at the crosswalk, and by not walking through the school parking lot.
- Parents/guardians wishing to use the main parking lot may do so with the understanding that the lot closes for in/out car traffic 8:10-8:30 a.m., in the afternoons from 3:00-3:20 p.m., and on early out days from 1:20-1:40 p.m. (In other words, if you enter the school’s parking lot, please know that you will have to wait until after the gates re-open to exit).
- A drop-off/pick-up only lane is available on the south side of the building. When using this lane please arrange students to enter/exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. Remember to pull up as far as possible to allow multiple cars access to load/unload, and please do not park and exit your vehicle while in the drop-off/pick-up lane.
Nut-free Treat Zone – We have some students with severe allergies to nuts. For the safety of all our students, we are requesting that all shared treats (birthdays, rewards, and class parties) be store bought, individually packaged (new this year), and be nut-free. This will not change what your child can bring for lunch, but please be cognizant and courteous of students with allergies when making such choices.
Volunteering in the School – Volunteers are being allowed back in our schools. Volunteers may be subject to a health screening before volunteering and remember that all volunteers need to submit a new volunteer application annually. Click here to sign up and/or renew your application: https://volunteer.canyonsdistrict.org/volunteersystem/#!/application/volunteer//
PTA – Please support our wonderful PTA. Thank you, Amber McRae for serving as our new president. Becoming a PTA member supports our school and allows the PTA to keep you in the loop about happenings regarding our school.
