School Community Council Meeting Minutes January 5, 2023

Attendees: Justin Jeffery, Gio Velez, Janell Myrick, Penny Armour, Jeanette Knight, Greg Liddiard

Virtual: Chris Sharp, Jen Coccimiglio, Isaac Zeigler Meeting called to order at 5:42 pm

Agenda Items:
A) Welcome & Follow-up Items

  1. Council approved last minute meetings
    1. Motion: Jen Coccimiglio, Second: Greg Liddiard – Council unanimous in the affirmative
  2. School Celebrations
    1. Christmas Sing-a-long went great!
    2. Class parties and all other Christmas related activities went on smoothly.

B) Discuss/Approve Safe Routes Plan for 2023-2024

  1. Discuss plan and answer questions on Google Form
    1. The form is on Dashboard. Not much has changed from last year’s plan.
    2. Talked a bit about the newer homes being built and the possibility of needing to add safe routes from there if there are any students coming to Park Lane.
      1. Neighborhood hasn’t changed significantly in the past year.

i) Motion to approve plan: Penny Armour, Second: Jen Coccimiglio – Council unanimous in the affirmative

C) Review of 2023 School Stakeholder’s Feedback Survey & Land Trust Final Report

  1. Ideas for improvement in safety/communication
    1. Discussion of having only two doors unlocked for mornings when it’s too cold to wait outside. Janell Myrick emailed us the district’s school safety plan outline. We discussed that we can talk about improvements to safety in the Newsletter. Justin Jeffrey to add about the small changes and plans in the Newsletter to help parents know we are taking their concerns to heart.
  2. Idea for 2023-24 TSSP and Land Trust?
    1. Just start to get this on our brains to prepare to come up with our plan at the next meeting.

D) Budget Requests

  1. Teacher cell tower grant requests – NONE b) Other budget needs?
    1. Thank you for the budget used to benefit our staff!
    2. Talked about using some funds for Teacher of the Year or if any teachers are retiring. (No teachers retiring this year.)

E) Follow-up & Misc.

  1. Follow-up about Parking Lot
    1. Building leadership team talk about crosswalks and came up with some ideas to paint the crosswalks so they will be more clear and apparent. Painting can’t happen until the snow is gone.
    2. Take out the middle crosswalk that goes through the parking area.
    3. Possibly creating some cement barriers near the horseshoe drop off area to help lead the children in the right direction towards the crosswalks
    4. Janell Myrick will talk to Ryan Jakeman.
    5. Safety Update
      1. Opening less doors during cold weather (January Newsletter) c) Other School Safety Concerns
      2. Justin Jeffery will continue to call out any safety concerns or changes in the monthly newsletters.
